As any Indonesian coffee enthusiast would know, Jogja is full of the weird and wonderful. It seems as though so long as you can envision it, it can very well become reality in this student city. Case in point, Epic Coffee and Epilog Furniture.

Yes, you heard right, coffee and furniture. It’s not everyday you stumble upon a coffee shop that has such a neighbor, much less one of this size. Occupying a sizable hangar, the shop’s size is, well, epic.

Beyond the floor to ceiling glass entrance, customers are greeted by the well-stocked coffee bar. On the wall adjacent to the coffee bar is the wheel of coffee, depicting the life of a coffee bean from tree to cup and the numerous alternate routes it could take. Behind the coffee bar is a row of seats that leads up to the furniture showroom where everything from tables, chairs, and wardrobes are up for grabs. The best seats however are outside, draped in the shade provided by whimsical hanging flower plants – like something straight out of a Pinterest photo. The are even more seats on the lawn, so take your pick. Verdant and sunny, sitting outdoors has to be the way to go.

In the middle of the lawn is a two-story glasshouse. It doesn’t house plants – rather that’s where all the roasting goes down. Despite having started life as a furniture shop, Epic Coffee quickly jumped aboard the roasting train and now roasts coffee from all over with its sturdy Probat machine.  The coffee menu is ever changing and always interesting. The likes of  Gallardo Casa Geisha from Panama, Areka Yirgacheffe from Ethiopia, and Wanagiri Natural from Bali keep coffee connoisseurs happy.

It must have been interesting transitioning from furniture to coffee. It’s undoubtedly different from anything else out there, but it certainly works and is nothing short of epic.
